Pets Facts publishes general educational information about pet care, nutrition, behaviour and health awareness. Please read this page before acting on anything you find on the site.
This Is Information, Not Veterinary Advice
Our articles are written for a general audience. They are not tailored to your animal and cannot take account of its species, breed, age, weight, medical history, medication or current condition. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prescription or a treatment plan, and reading this site does not create a veterinary-client-patient relationship.
Always consult a qualified veterinarian before changing your pet’s diet, starting or stopping any treatment, or acting on a symptom you have noticed.
How to Read What We Publish
- General information: background, context and typical guidance. This is what we publish.
- Veterinary advice: species and patient specific guidance from a professional who has examined your animal. This is what we cannot publish.
- Emergency care: immediate, in-person treatment. No website is a substitute for it.
When to Stop Reading and Call a Vet
Contact a veterinarian or an emergency animal hospital immediately if your pet shows any of the following. Do not wait to research it first.
- Difficulty breathing, choking, or blue or very pale gums
- Collapse, unresponsiveness, or a seizure
- Suspected poisoning, or eating something toxic or obstructive
- A swollen, hard abdomen with unproductive retching
- Heavy or uncontrolled bleeding, or a serious injury
- Straining to urinate or producing no urine
- Repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, especially with lethargy or in a young or elderly animal
- Suspected heatstroke, or a serious burn
Accuracy and Limits
We research carefully and update our guides as recommendations change, as described in our Editorial Policy. Even so, guidance evolves and errors are possible. We give no warranty that the content is complete, current or suitable for your situation, and we accept no liability for decisions made on the basis of it.
External Links, Products and Advertising
We link to outside sources to help you verify information. We do not control those sites and a link is not a blanket endorsement. Where a page carries advertising or an affiliate link, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and that never changes what we recommend. Any product mentioned should still be discussed with your vet if it relates to your animal’s health.
